這是由德國 Planet4 公司推出，有著精緻畫面的策略遊戲《雷霆任務》。遊戲故事描述遙遠銀河的一個星系，有個酷好殺戮的種族 Golraths，在群星之中不斷發動戰爭，征服並奴役其他星球的種族，剩下沒被征服的種族組成了 Avaras 聯軍，展開了一連串的反抗活動。玩家的任務就是重建 Avaras，透過結合武力、外交等方式，將 Golraths 逐出家園。
本作中有著真實的 3D 地形，在攝影角度上模擬真實肉眼的視角，隨著滑鼠的移動，地形會上下起伏，對部隊也會有實際上的影響，當一個部隊在較高的地勢時，也就有著較大的優勢，而地形高低也對建築物及整體戰術有相當大的影響。另外，像是火箭擊中地面所留下的凹洞，讓敵人不能在上面蓋建築物，甚至是每一棵樹都可以被轟倒，增加了許多戰術應用上的變化。天氣變化及氣候的影響也在遊戲中精緻的表現出來，火山熔岩、沙漠、冰天雪地、大草原等都透過遊戲精細的解析度呈現。遊戲中共有 64 種不同的部隊單位及建築，每一個單位都以精細的 3D 繪圖引擎繪製而成，且有著極為真實的動作。除了原本就有的部隊外，也可以從網路上下載最新單位、種族、任務，並且與最多七個不同的人在網路上廝殺。
具有高度人工智慧的電腦敵人是遊戲的另外一個賣點，玩家將會發現電腦敵軍每一次都從不同的地點出現，每一次都運用不同的戰術進攻，當玩家固定死守某一個防禦點時，當心下一次電腦就從您沒注意到的地方出現，狠狠痛擊您一番。對於喜好殺戮的玩家來說，建造一群大軍再狠狠踐踏敵人的基地，當然是快感的最佳來源，但是暴力並不是唯一可以解決問題的方法，玩家可以透過外交上的不同策略合縱連橫，將盟軍連成一氣，或是請他們當你的肉盾，都是有效降低我方傷亡的好方法。
當即時戰略的熱潮仍然持續發燒，這一套有著精細圖像、高度人工智慧的大作，雖然設計公司來自德國，台灣地區的玩家可能不太熟悉，但從英語系國家熱烈討論的情況看來，玩家們或許可以試試這套有著精緻風格，值得細細品味的好遊戲。

How to play Thandor: The Invasion Windows

Install & play guide:
Mount the disc image. You will need the utility for mounting disc image files, like WinCDEmu, UltraISO, Alcohol 52%/Alcohol 102% or Daemon Tools Lite
Open the mounted disc, right click on setup.exe - Properties - Compatibility - Set "Run this app in compatibility mode with Windows 95/98". The game was programmed for Windows 95/98 and Win2000 and installer works only in compatibility mode with Windows 95/98
Install the game
Also it is recommended to install DirectX 7.0 (look for the installer in Download section)
Install the patch 1.05 (just copy-paste the files in the game directory)
The sound files of the game doesn't work on Windows Vista or newer OS, so install sound fix to have sound in the game
Optionally install NoCD
Open the directory with the game and find thandor.exe. Right click on thandor.exe - Properties - Compatibility - Set "Run this app in compatibility mode with Windows 95/98"
Launch the game and play. If the game doesn't run - open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del by default) and check for processes thandor.exe and rundll32.exe. Close thandor.exe but don't touch rundll32.exe (it's a Windows app for running old apps from 32-bit operational systems, most old games running through rundll32.exe). Now try to launch the game again, it must work. Don't forget to close rundll32.exe process in Task Manager after finishing playing.
Troubleshooting (on Windows Vista or newer OS the game might have troubles - no sound, graphic glitches, etc., here's some technical advices):
It is recommended to install DirectX 7.0
If your game doesn't have sound - install sound fix (just copy-paste the files in the game directory)
If all landscape textures are black - change graphic settings to different level of details (Low, Medium or High), after that return settings to previous selection, it should help
If you're playing Russian or German version and all text is on English or just broken - delete PATCH00.PCK file from the game directory
Note: The patch 1.05 generates standard false positive alerts on VirusTotal https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/53d097963e0b99c92b3b635255373d83f8b2ae5f65451ec76a11ff41588bd969 The game with patch has been tested by different users on different PCs, nobody had any troubles, so it should be safe to use. The patch 1.05 is necessary to launch the game on modern systems. Alternatively, you can also launch the game without the patch inside Virtual Machine, game works fine on VirtualBox with Windows 98
The game with Patch 1.05 and sound fix has been tested on Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10, all language versions works fine. The game doesn't support resolutions higher than 1400x900, try to use dgVoodoo if you want to play in higher resolution
